Description

Art by Jay De Foy (:iconharpokrates:)

This is a little something I commission from Jay for my birthday.   Here it is in his profile (please go over there and comment!)

Tlaca vs. Supergirl by Harpokrates

I've commissioned Jay quite a bit, but it's been awhile.  If you've been to my gallery before, Jay's the one who started the entire "She-Hulk and the Turtle" (actually probably a tortoise) thing.  You can read about all that here:

Jen and that Darn TurtleAdministrivia:

I'm going to republish this when I make a change, in case people are interested in following these. Feel free to tell me if you think it's being updated too much/too little/getting annoying. There is now a changelog at the bottom, so you can see what has changed across time. New images will go into the sequence (new ones at the bottom), but I'll also put the new images right below this (but only for the last change or two). I don't want it to get too top heavy.

And now back to the story

So, I've now commissioned several images of Jen and a Turtle. And since I like to tell stories on every image I make, I end up retelling (and relinking) to a bunch of images each time. There are now too many to link to in the description on a page. Time for a Journal. I'll periodically add to this journal entry when I collect new entries. Each image in my gallery will have longer notes on it about commissioning i

I have a lot of scans of his original pencils here: cerebus873.deviantart.com/gall…  Not all of it is Jay's, but a lot of it is.  Some have been colored and are in my gallery too (I link to those on the image).

Jay is currently taking commissions, I've worked with him several times and every time he's exceeded my expectations.  He's a good guy, if you like his art, send some business his way.

I haven't been commissioning much, partly as I've been busy, and partly as I've not really felt the pull.  I think I let things get to me, and haven't been spending enough time cycled down and just enjoying things. This year when I realized that my birthday was coming around and I'd done _nothing_ I started to ponder what I'd want, and going through the long lists of artists to commission and things to think about.  I quickly decided that since Tlaca was one of my favorite stories and to date I'd seen _two_ bits of fan art of her -- one of which I'd commissioned -- I decided that it was time for another.

here's the one I commissioned, it links to the only other one I know of.

Tlaca by soniamatas by cerebus873

I started looking through my lists of artists trying to figure out who to craft a good Supergirl vs Tlaca and then my eyes hit upon Harpokrates name, and I KNEW that I'd figured out the puzzle. Who: Harpokrates  What: Tlaca & Supergirl  Why: I want to see more of Tlaca, and I wanted an image showing her utter superiority over Supergirl.  She's so bombastic and over the top in the story, I wanted to see it depicted that way, where she rally is the "Superior Girl".

I sent off a pitch to Jay, he asked a few questions and he went away.  Before I knew it, this showed up in my inbox.    I love working with Jay as he makes sure that he's on the right wavelength, and then he goes off and delivers something amazing and surprising.

I really love this.  I think for me it centers on Tlaca's face.  He's captured her regal, exotic look (and dem legs).  I love her expression, it's a bit of humor, a bit haughty and has the attitude that she demonstrated in the story.  Supergirl takes her best shot, and it just amuses Tlaca.   Now that's what I was after. ;-)

I love it when a plan comes together.  Frankly, I'd forgotten how much fun I have with commissioning.

If you're an artist who is going to be at one of these events, and you want to get someone to pre-book a commission (or stop by your booth, or commission at the show), shoot me a note.  I'm pretty easy to convince. ;-)

- Cincinnati Comic Expo
- Akron Comic Con
- Gem City

If you're going to be at the Expo next week (Sept 23-25 2016) and want to say "hi", let me know, I'll try to find you and say hello.

next: I still have two images from Didi to post.  I'll try to get to that.  Also, I have some art pre-ordered for a convention next week, I'll see if i can share some of those.  And I have some stories I should finish, and maybe I should just wing some silly things out.  I also have another commission outstanding (not counting the "I have no idea if/when they'll be done.").

Now, I'm trying to remember to meditate. I don't really do anything too deep, mostly just some square breathing.  It tends to make my brain slow down and start to think, and then ideas can flow into my head, and I that inspires me to find the right person to create something for me -- or enables me to be in the right frame of mind to see someone's gallery and go "DING!" and get a great idea.  (I really love that, because I'm responding to something of the artist's and it inspires me directly.  This has happened to me a lot.  For a lot of artists I've commissioned I can tell you the image that made me go "I HAVE to commission this person!").  Going to see if I can start another commission this weekend.
