Description

Art by the wonderful :iconaberrantkitty:  This is something I commissioned from her, and I'm posting it with her kind permission.

So, yeah, this is another one of the long line of She-Hulk and the Turtle pictures.  you can read about the others here:

Jen and that Darn TurtleAdministrivia:

I'm going to republish this when I make a change, in case people are interested in following these. Feel free to tell me if you think it's being updated too much/too little/getting annoying. There is now a changelog at the bottom, so you can see what has changed across time. New images will go into the sequence (new ones at bottom), but I'll also put the new images right below this (but only for the last change or two). I don't want it to get too top heavy.

And now back to the story

So, I've now commissioned several images of Jen and a Turtle. And since I like to tell stories on every image I make, I end up retelling (and relinking) to a bunch of images each time. There are now too many to link to in the description on a page. Time for a Journal. I'll periodically add to this journal entry when I collect new entries. I may (or may not) re-publish the changes when I do. If you have a preference either

I love working with AberrantKitty, she's really fun to work with.  Sometimes you really sync with an artist, and it just makes working with them quite fun.  Suffice it to say she's one of my favorite people on Deviant Art, and she's made some of my favorite commissions too.  (I am almost always using one of them as a Desktop Picture on my Laptop or Desktop, though I have multiple screens so there's more than one.)

Mostly I commission randomly, I mean there are always too many artists I want to commission, and I have a long list of things I sort of want (half ideas, characters, etc).  So I can forget to circle around and do things.  But, in chatting back and forth with AberrantKitty in the comments on one of my images (or it could have been one of hers, I forget), I mentioned that I really need to commission her again ...

And then, I mention (casually) "or you could draw She-Hulk and the Turtle"... to which I got back a "I HAVE to draw that turtle!!!".  (I can't seem to find the comment for an exact quote.)  And that point, it was going to happen.  ;-)

Anyway, things being what they were, it still takes a bit for my to sync up and get a commission in ... and we spent a bit of talking about the setup. But when things finally start going, it's the end of the long winter in Canada, and it was spring here.  Even though it's high commission season, Collette fit me into her schedule.  We'd talked a bit about how it's nice when spring gets here, how winter is a long slog of cold dark days.

I might have mentioned this but I rarely have a favorite anything.  There's just too many of me running around in my head, and my tastes shift constantly.  So a favorite anything is hard for me.   But I have a Favorite Beatles Song, and it's precisely because it feels like happy to me, and it's about the shift from Winter into Spring: Here Comes the Sun.  So naturally I thought of the song, as it's always on my mind in the Spring.  With that as a inspiration, I thought that perhaps a nice psychedelic flair would work.  The Turtle's playing a guitar, Jen is a flower-child.  Nice bright colors.

Colette suggested that Jen be dancing, as tribute to the other images I have of her dancing.  (Google She-Hulk Dancing and the top images are from my Gallery. Why?  Heck I don't know I guess I'm weird.)  At this point, I knew we had something that I was going to really love.   And I'm glad to be proven correct!

So, I left her to it.  Later, I get the black and white inks in my mailbox.  And, let me tell you this is EXACTLY why I commission.  I had this idea in my head and suddenly here it is, in my inbox, looking 10x better than anything I'd ever imagined.  Also, I'd not have thought to commission this from any other artist .. it sprang out of the conversation that Collette and I were having.  This is the best kind of commission, it's reflects the artist, but it's something made specifically for me, and would not have been made otherwise.

It was amazing just in black and white, and then the colors showed up in my inbox.  Good golly.

I really don't think i can explain how much I really love this.  It's so bright and happy, and feels just like I wanted it to feel.  I always process the world (including art) with my analytical brain, it slices and dices and says things.  I'm a programmer by training and trade (spiced with a bit of admin), and part of my brain is excessively logical and analytical.  It never shuts off and it never shuts up.  And it can get a little annoying.  You know that guy?  The one that yammers useless facts and googles everything and dissects jokes?  Yeah, he lives in my head.  But he can appreciate art, and it's less annoying when it yammers at me when I see things I like.  But when it's the best art, it doesn't matter, as he gets mostly drowned out by a part of me that is almost non-linguistic.  It does't use words, it's not even quite sure what those are.  But what it does it just tell me how things feel.

A good portion of the art I like is something that sparks off a feeling in me for whatever reason.  One of the reasons I like Colette's art is that she's given multiple pieces that do that for me.  I'm now conflicted, as I have two "favorite things that AberrantKitty has made for me".  This one, and an image of Jen and Black Widow (linked below).  (And it's not like I don't love the other images ... she's also the one who has drawn my  "Strangest" commission, and it's tied or the "most fun" commission too, though this one is pretty high up that ladder too.)

This one is all about the happy.  Look at that Darn Turtle!!  And look at Jen's face!  And those colors.  Sheesh.  The Jen/Natasha image makes me feel calm and peaceful, this makes me happy.  I can't help smiling every time I look at it.

I sure hope everyone likes this as much as I do!

And I think it goes without saying that I absolutely think that you should commission AberrantKitty!  At the very least look around in her gallery.

A few images that I referenced:

She-Hulk Dancing:

And here is my other favorite image from AberrantKitty  As I say in it's description, this just make me feel calm and peaceful overtime I see it.  It's just beautiful, and it's one of the images where I feel it more than I see it.

And here are the "most fun commissions" (its a tie).  One was a gift, a piece of wonderful evil I commissioned to give to a friend, and it was just totally fun to work with Collette on it.  And as I said, it's my "Strangest Commission".  (Pun intended)  And the other?  Well, read it's description, it came to me, wouldn't get out of my head, so I HAD to commission it and Sonia just made the experience so fun that the image ended up being named "Tony Fucking Stark".  Really, it's experiences like creating this image, or the ones from my birthday last year, are these two below that just totally addict me to commissioning.
